Heidi Schreck paid for most of her college tuition traveling the United States and giving speeches about the Constitution for prize money. In this performance she attempts to resurrect the lost speech written by her 15-year-old self.
“What the Constitution Means To Me” has been commissioned by True Love Productions.
About the artists
Heidi Schreck is a writer and actor living in Brooklyn. Her plays include Grand Concourse (Playwrights Horizons, Steppenwolf Theatre); Creature (New Georges and Page 73); There Are No More Big Secrets (Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre); and The Consultant (Long Wharf). Awards: Claire Tow Fellowship at Playwrights Horizons, Lilly Awards Stacey Mindich Prize, Susan Smith Blackburn Finalist, Roe Green Award at Cleveland Playhouse, and the Page 73 Playwriting Fellowship. Heidi is an alumna of the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab and Sundance Theatre Lab, and is currently commissioned by MTC, True Love Productions, South Coast Rep and the Atlantic Theatre Company. As an actor, she has performed at Playwrights Horizons, The Public Theatre (Shakespeare in the Park), MTC, Theater of a Two-Headed Calf, The Foundry, Clubbed Thumb, The Women’s Project, The Roundabout, Williamstown, Berkeley Rep, Center Theatre Group, and with The Talking Band. She has also worked as a writer and actor on Showtime’s NURSE JACKIE and BILLIONS, and as reporter in St. Petersburg Russia. Heidi has received two OBIES, a Drama Desk, and the Theatre World Award.
Lee Sunday Evans is a director + choreographer. Credits include: Wellesley Girl by Brendan Pelsue (Humana), D Deb Debbie Deborah by Jerry Lieblich (Clubbed Thumb), A Beautiful Day in November on the Banks… by Kate Benson (OBIE Award – New Georges/Women’s Project), The Play About My Dad by Boo Killebrew (59E59), God’s Ear by Jenny Schwartz (Juilliard), Family Play (1979 to Present) by CollaborationTown, The Caucasian Chalk Circle by Bertolt Brecht with original music by Nicholas C. Williams. Her work has been presented/developed at: Baryshnikov Arts Center, Sundance Theater Lab, BAX, CATCH, LMCC, Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center, Juilliard. As the resident director for CollaborationTown, Lee is currently developing a new musical as part of New Victory’s LabWorks, and is under commission from LCT3.
