On the morning of August 27th, 1896, the British fought a thirty-eight minute war for control of the sovereign archipelago nation of Zanzibar. Now, a group of performers have come together to tell the story of this war from start to finish…plus a little extra.

About the Artists

Matt Barbot is a writer and actor from Brooklyn, NY. Recently, he presented El Coquí Espectácular and the Bottle of Doom at The Brick’s 2014 Comic Book Theater Festival (also directed by Anne Cecelia Haney); Infallibility was produced as part of the 2013 New York International Fringe Festival. He is currently a member of The Flea Theater’s resident acting company, The Bats, with whom he performed in the Drama Desk Award nominated and New York Times Critics’ pick These Seven Sicknesses. Matt is pursuing his MFA in playwriting at Columbia University.


Anne Cecelia Haney
is a Brooklyn-based director and producer. She is a Resident Director at The Flea Theater and the Artistic Director of Mad Ecstatic (formerly Idly Bent Theater Company), a non-profit organization that seeks to promote original work by young artists.
