Tens Across the Boards is an homage to the women who continually inspire the artist formerly known as Dionne Slay. Throughout the decades these women have served as pivotal influences on the music world and the world at large. Dionne will guide you through this musical celebration with love, light and hope for the future.

about the artists

Dionne Slay (Basit Shittu) is a Brooklyn based artist and activist from Dallas, Texas. Dionne is dedicated to honoring and celebrating the black women who have deeply inspired her, and can be seen performing live music and dance in various venues throughout NYC. Dionne was also featured in the Brooklyn drag festival Bushwig. Outside of the drag persona Basit was most recently seen in the European Tour of Hair the Musical, and also as Sam in the world premiere of the play PILLOWTALK. Other credits include: The Demise: A rock Opera, Cats: Rum Tum Tugger, and The Wiz: Tin Man. Dionne/Basit are beyond thrilled to be apart of the HOT FESTIVAL, and is very thankful to Dixon Place for this incredible opportunity. IG and twitter @basitshittu and @dionneslay.

Scott F. Davis (Director) is a Brooklyn-based collaborative theatre artist who focuses on the reconstruction of preexisting texts. His work has been seen at various venues including The Sibiu International Theater Festival, HERE Arts Center, The Glove, Dixon Place, The Clemente Center, The Sheen Center and many others. Scott is an alumni of Pace School Performing Arts (2016) , The Lincoln Center Directors Lab (2017) and Directors Lab West (2017). Scott is currently in residence at Vital Joint where he is developing a new piece entitled My Brother, Phil.

Tanner Simpson (Designer) is a NYC based Production Designer & Production Manager for live events & theatre. Design work has been featured at the Freedom Tower, 4 Times Square, the New York Public Library, Pace University, Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Sheen Center, & more. Selected theatre projects include: “The Signature Project” (The Sheen Center) & A Star Has Burnt My Eye” (BAM, NY Times Critics’ Pick). He has also done work for clients including: Genius Music, Lil Yatchy, Wale, Diplo, The Durst Organization, Fetty Wap, Wale, Rick Ross, Stone Island, Snapchat, Euphoria Music Festival & many more.

Avery Stray is a New York based multidisciplinary sound and visual art director. She uses visually savage and romantic imagery through the lens of an intersectional feminist in theater, film, and sound design. Her recent project include: In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play (director- through the Drama League), No One Goes to Heaven (director), Locker Room Talk (sound designer; Dixon Place), Lava (asst. director; the Glove), Eurydice (video visuals)
