Statement Pieces Jinah Parker

About This Show

“Love’s in need of love today / Don’t delay / Send yours in right away” (Songs in the Key of Life, 1976). Stevie Wonder’s self- and neighbor-loving lyric inspired Statement Pieces, a suite composed of three pieces, which explore universal themes including privilege, self-hate, anxiety, and depression.  Ultimately, the prism of dance creates a performed foundation of self-love and hope.  In a confused world filled with doubt, self-hate, consistently growing anxiety and depression, we must look towards love as the solution.
