On Fixation Performances by Angela Washko, Michelle Levy and Nathaniel Sullivan

About This Show

On Fixation features three performances by artists examining the construction of authority, performativity and the private lives of three male public figures.

Tightrope Routines is a storytelling performance by Angela Washko based on several months of exchanges between the self-identified feminist artist herself and a pick-up artist, author, blogger and notorious manosphere leader deemed “the web’s most infamous misogynist”. Washko’s performance will be preceded by Michelle Levy’s Come Back (phase 2), the newest iteration of her shared exploration of the legacy of her father, the once great motivational salesman “Lucky” Levy, who has since fallen down on his luck. In the evening’s opening performance Before The Nation Went Bankrupt, Nathaniel Sullivan tells the story of the current financial crisis through the love letters super-banker Jamie Dimon. Conflating romantic love and finance, the letters are a cry in the dark form an insular world that brought us all to the brink of financial, physical and moral ruin.

About the Artists

Angela Washko is an artist, writer and facilitator devoted to creating new forums for discussions of feminism in the spaces most hostile toward it. She is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon University. Since 2012, Washko has additionally been operating as The Council on Gender Sensitivity and Behavioral Awareness in World of Warcraft, an ongoing intervention inside the most popular massively multi-player online role playing game of all time.

Michelle Levy is a Brooklyn based artist investigating personal belief-systems through multimedia performance. Levy’s evolving show, “Come Back,” debuted to select audiences in multiple NYC venues in 2015. She received popular and critical attention for “Search for Agent C,” (2010-2013) a trans-media performance inspired by the TV show Twin Peaks.

Nathaniel Sullivan is an artist who describes his practice as creative non-fiction, most often taking form as multi-media lecture performances. He has created performances on subjects as varied as former French president Francois Mitterrand’s last meal, basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain’s sex life, and the love letters of banker Jamie Dimon.
