Dixon Place Presents NYC Drawing the Dance Workshop Organized by Sangeeta Yesley, Creative Performances

About This Show

This is a workshop for visual and fine artists, drawing/painting dancers as they dance/ rehearse/ improvise and hold interesting dance poses. 

NYC Drawing the Dance workshop is organized by Creative Performances @creativeperformances and presented by Dixon Place @dixonplace .

Dancer/Model: Maia Sage @maiasagedance

Duration: Approx. 2hrs workshop with a 10 minutes break for costume change. Each half is around 30 to 40 min long. Poses start at 30 sec to 1 min for warm up and then we move on to 3min, 5min, 8min in the first half and 5 min,10 min and 15 minutes poses in the second half. Dancer dancers slowly before holding each pose.

What to expect: The dancer will dance very slowly and will hold poses in between dance moves.

Please check in 15 minutes before the workshop begins.

COVID Protocols: Mask wearing is not mandatory.  However, Dixon Place requests everyone to wear a mask while inside the building. http://dixonplace.org/coronavirus/

Dixon Place is fully tested and certified for indoor productions . The AC system is upgraded and equipped with MERV-13 filers.

BRING ALL YOUR OWN MATERIALS, drawing boards, portable easels, or draw on pads on your laps, etc. We can provide music stand as a substitute for easel. There is a sink available in the bathroom for rinsing your brushes. No glitters, please.

The organizer or the venue are not responsible for misplaced items.

Each artist keeps his/her own drawings/paintings. The dancers and/or the organizers may request the artists for a photo of the art work. It will be at the artists’ discretions whether they want to share their art or not.

And lastly, there won’t be any instruction or any instructor. We expect the attending artists to have prior knowledge of drawing and painting to try these workshops for a new experience.

about the organizer

Sangeeta is an immigrant from India. She is an independent producer of arts and entertainment events, rooted in her deep passion for dance. Her expertise lies in crafting innovative shows that blur the boundaries between dance and other art forms. As the Director of Creative Performances, a nonprofit organization, she spearheads diverse projects such as the StylePointe, NYC Drawing the Dance Workshop and the Dixon Connect Networking event featuring the Max4 performance segment. Additionally, she conducts Dance Photography workshops aimed at photographers seeking to capture the essence of dance movements.

At Dixon Place in NYC, Sangeeta serves as a dance curator, curating renowned series including ‘Fast Forward,’ ‘8 in Show,’ ‘HOT Dance,’ ‘Dance Bloc NYC’ – an annual dance festival and the annual 30-30-30 End of Year Dance Benefit held on December 30th. She is a former board member of Dixon Place and White Wave Dance and serves on the selection panel for esteemed festivals such as Solo Duo & Dumbo Dance Festivals. She currently serves as a member of The Bessies Awards selection committee.

Sangeeta’s overarching mission is to provide a platform for early to mid-career artists in NYC, empowering them to thrive and progress in their creative journeys.
