Muscle Beach: Not Jayne Mansfield’s Story Drew Pisarra

About This Show

In an alternate universe, three wannabe B-movie stars – who only wish they were Jayne Mansfield, Mickey Hargitay, and Pepper Gomez – hang out on a California beach the day after a heinous crime for which all three are implicated. Twin corpses return to accuse the killers while a somewhat clueless reporter tries to get to the bottom of the case. Akin to Beach Blanket Bingo as if written by Samuel Beckett, the play is an existential critique of celebrity culture as a core part of the American identity.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Drew Pisarra performed his ventriloquist act Singularly Grotesque and his scifi dance-duet with Jennifer Allen FUTUREWORLD way back when Dixon Place was Ellie Covan’s living room. Since then, he’s staged, adapted, and produced numerous Gertrude Stein one-acts including Now Repeat in Steinese, an evening in which the same short play (“White Wines”) was interpreted four times, each version paired with a different wine. His first poetry collection, Infinity Standing Up, was published by Capturing Fire in December 2018. Muscle Beach is the first in his trio of tragicomedies inspired by B-movie stars.
