Prof. B. Giles takes a closer look at LESBEING hominid artists. Special guests of the DYKEASPORA take center stage as evidence of this ancient artistic civilization. With a heavy dose of levity, non-notable artist Kate Conroy and notable ethnographer Prof. Giles present a line-up of exceptional talent. Special guests include: Kay Turner, Susana Cook, Monique Sorel Dominguez, Marty Correia, Babs Davy, Betsy Farrell, Afua Kafi-Akua, Ruby Gomez and Priya Patel.

About the Artist

Kate Conroy is an arts activist writer, director, curator, and performer who trained at NYU-Tisch’s Arts Politics graduate program with Karen Finley as adviser. Conroy’s visual art petrie dish portraits of lesbian artists are the basis of a surreal ethnography The Giles Findings: A Natural Herstory of Lesbeings, which debuted at Dixon Place in 2011. Conroy has presented over the years at Dixon, most recently directing Bandwidth and Best Medicine  in 2017. She has also presented at SOHO20, HERE, Joe’s Pub, and the Howl Festival. Recently she created Walking Backwards to Work and Clean Drinking Water as public street/park performance art responses to political issues.
