About the Artists

Confluence Performance Project
Performing “Lineage Ritual”
Choreography by Brianna Taylor, in collaboration with the performers

Lineage Ritual is about family, and the strands that for better or worse, connect us to our past. Performers use movement, sound, story and saran wrap to examine ways heritage can simultaneously support and confine us, shape our world-view and offer a framework from which to resist, reflect, or recalculate our lives. Drawing on personal and family stories, the performers ask themselves and the audience how memories can situate us in our daily lives, and how to navigate when histories collide. Lineage Ritual invites audiences to join this journey and help shape the environment for the performers to move within, heightening one’s relationship to spontaneity, responsibility, surrender, and change.

Nicole Colbert Dance/Theatre
Performing “Home (In Four Seasons)”
Choreography by Nicole Colbert

What is home? Where is home? Who is home? Nicole Colbert’s “Home (In Four Seasons)” explores the physical, emotional and psychological concepts of home. Weaving together theatrical tableaus, personal narratives, and a dance vocabulary that fuses classical and contemporary elements with structured improvisation, the work contends with the feminist, political and social identities associated with home.
