About the Aritsts

Scarlett McCarthy has workshopped plays with Suzan-Lori Parks, Eduardo Machado, Lisa Kron &  Branden Jacob-Jenkins. Her poetry & fiction has received awards from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, Bennington College & YoungArts; it has received publication in Pond Magazine, The Journal of Microfiction & Forth Magazine. She has interned with New Dramatists & in the development department at MCC Theater. She studies gender & sexuality studies & playwriting at NYU, where she is a senior in NYU Tisch’s Dramatic Writing Department.

Julien Hawthorne is a playwright, director & performer based out of Brooklyn. His plays include The Life and Death of Jane (Dixon Place), Concerning the Cleansing of the Hands, The Method & Underground. As a performer, he has worked with a diverse array of theater artists including Rinde Eckert, David Schweizer, Deb Margolin & Alice Reagan. He has directed productions of Brecht’s Mother Courage and Her Children & Genet’s The Maids. As a journalist, he has written for Time Inc., The Spectator & the Columbia School of Social Work. Additionally, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia Review from 2013-2015. He holds a B.A. in English Literature & American Studies from Columbia University.
