HOT Festival presents Don’t Cry For Me – My Yeshiva

About This Show
Think Nathan Lane (The Birdcage) meets Eva Gabor (Green Acres) and that’s sums up Joe Fox’s wild toad ride of a journey when he played it “straight” in the Lobster State of Maine – to make a documentary on a same-sex marriage referendum battle that took place in that state.
Framed around our fight to marry the ones we love is the not so back story of an adopted son of an Orthodox Rabbi (that would be Joe) and his lifelong search for family, love, acceptance and that elusive rainbow connection.
About the Artist
Growing up as the son of an Orthodox Rabbi – the highlight of my adolescence was eating pork the night before my Bar-Mitzvah.
I am the co-owner of a film/documentary production company: Fly On The Wall Productions. Over the last few decades my documentaries on various topics such as the forced internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II – have screened at over 100 film festivals and have been distributed on major streaming platforms.
My roots are in Journalism having worked for many leading publications including USA Today where a three part series I did on South Africa, Israel and Northern Ireland was nominated for that paper’s Pulitzer prize.
For the stage – I won a major grant by the City of Los Angeles to create a stage presentation about the LA riots (And It Never Rains) as well as having written a play based o my own adoption journey (Prism View) which was presented by the Dramatists Workshop.
I live in Brooklyn with my husband and dog who answers to Frank and Noogie respectively.
