Founded in 2020 at the height of the Covid Lockdown, Black Artists’ Matter began as an online variety showcase spotlighting the work of Black Performers from across the country. Back again after four years, we are excited to present the sixth iteration of this showcase – in person for the second time!

About the Artists

Sauda Aziza Jackson studied theater at Eastern Illinois University graduating with a B.A in Theater Arts and continued on to the MFA Acting program at Brooklyn College. Sauda’s first writing/performing project, I Digress: The Intimate Insights of a Childhood Weirdo, a four episode transmedia performance memoir had its first incarnation here at Dixon place with Little Theater many years ago….She’s ecstatic to return. Sifiso Mabena is a Zimbabwean, NY based, multidisciplinary theatre maker/educator who is a skilled actor, singer, puppeteer, educator, playwright and deviser. Her work often explores displacement in diasporic communities, history, identity and femininity. www.fisopearlmabena.com IG: @fisozozomab

Noax (they/them) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Harlem. They have worked professionally in the entertainment industry for several years as an actor, singer, writer, producer, and advocate on the lands of the Munsee Lenape people (otherwise known as NYC). They seek to foster community amongst the various ecosystems they inhabit and discover transformative ways in which we can educate artists that are rooted in equity, healing, and community building. www.noax.me

PJ O’Neal (he/him) is a multi-hyphenate artist, playwright, food writer, and educator. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild, and The Tank NYC’s Lit Council 2023 – 2025 for male playwrights of color. Previous work include a solo play, CODE RED which had its world premier at the Borderlight Theatre Festival in Cleveland, Ohio in 2023, a short play, DANTE’S 2 TRAIN, had its New York premier at the Secret Theatre Act One: One Act Festival in 2024, and his play STINGER recently had a public reading produced by Seadog Theatre and NewYorkRep and won the Curtain Rising Playwriting award. His artistic goal is to create stories that highlight those who are from marginalized communities. He aims to provide a mirror of society and not necessarily a vehicle for escapism. His published food writing can be found in national publications such as Allrecipes, Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, and Spruce Eats, as well as literary magazines. He is currently in Hunter College’s MFA Playwriting program.

Cassia Thompson is a Brooklyn-based actor and graduate of Webster University’s Sargent Conservatory of Theatre Arts. Cassia has appeared in productions at The Old Globe, Syracuse Stage, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Bay Street Theatre, and American Players Theatre to name a few. When not acting, Cassia can be found volunteering at her community garden or finding bliss in a Levain Bakery.
