Fast Forward Curated by Sangeeta Yesley
About This Show
Fast Forward provides opportunities for choreographers working in all dance forms to workshop 25 – 35 min pieces on a shared bill curated around a theme.
In October, Fast Forward’s theme is “A Point of View.” Ballet Des Amériques will present Lentil Soup and Megan Bascom & Dancers will present ON.
Lentil Soup (Ballet des Amériques)
Choreography by Carole Alexis
New work by Ballet des Amériques
“Lentil Soup” is an exploration of our human hunger and quest for spiritual nourishment. A series of dances to the music of diverse artists suggests how our hunger is satisfied in various ways in communion with nature, with animals, plants, the earth and fire, with each other in religious and nonreligious communities, and indeed around the dinner table where we share a common meal.
ON (Megan Bascom & Dancers)
Choreography by Megan Bascom in collaboration with the dancers
ON sets the stage in the present, a time when we find ourselves engaged and constantly stimulated. Information overload is an undeniable reality and our device-heavy habits have drastically shifted our social dynamics. Boredom, down-time, and mind wandering have become lost experiences. Self is a word that now holds a double meaning; self and digital self. ON delivers an intimate look at the behaviors, spaces, and platforms with which we occupy ourselves and engage with others in our digitalized life.
