Terminology of the Internet Marketing Glossary

ISO : The International Organization for Standardization system for determining sensor sensitivity. The system works by doubling. ISO 200 is twice the sensitivity of ISO 100 and half the sensitivity of ISO 400.

JPEG: An image file format developed by a Joint Group of Photography Experts and designated by the extension .jpg.

Kelvin (K): The color "temperature" is measured on the Kelvin scale, in which colors are indicated by the temperatures at which a heated blackbody radiator matches the color of the light source. This system allows you to specify exact color values.

Lag : A term indicating a delay after an action has been started. The most common delay times in digital image processing include shutter release delay, autofocus (AF) delay, and processing delay. The shutter delay describes the time it takes for the camera to capture a frame after pressing the shutter button. The AF delay defines the time it takes for the camera to autofocus, and the processing delay describes the time it takes to process the images and transfer them to the memory card so that the next image can be taken.

Landscape: Camera mode that sets the lens focus to almost infinity, selects a small lens aperture, and disables the flash. For printing, this term defines the orientation of a page that is wider than the height.

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display): LCD screens are used in digital cameras to preview and view pictures. In some cameras, they replace the optical viewfinder. Most of them also provide access to camera controls through a set of menus that are called up on the screen and selected by pressing a button. Some cameras have separate LCD screens that display status information, such as the number of frames, camera settings, and battery level.

Lens: An optical device consisting of several glass elements that transmits and refracts light to create an image that is recorded by the camera's sensor. SLR cameras use interchangeable lenses.

Live View: A feature on all compact digital cameras and many recent digital SLR cameras that allows you to use an LCD monitor to compose photos.

Manual: The Manual (M) setting on the camera mode dial gives the photographer full control over the lens aperture and shutter speed settings.

Megapixels : A term used to describe a million pixels. It is used to determine the number of pixels in a digital image, as well as (erroneously) to express the number of photo sites in image sensors in digital cameras.

Metadata: Structured data stored in digital image files that explain, locate, describe, or otherwise make use of the original primary data more efficient or effective. Two types of metadata are important for digital camera users: the Exif standard and the Digital Printing Order Format (DPOF) standard.
