HOT Festival The Anecdotes of a Lesbian Princess by Rachel Saruski

About This Show

The Anecdotes of a Lesbian Princess finds a messy, too emotionally available, overtherapized woman in her 20s trying to “hack” lesbian culture in New York City. Throughout the play, she details the anecdotes that describe her multicultural background and plethora of bad dating experiences to determine if the queer powers that be think her worthy of the ultimate prize: getting a text back from a girl. Let yourself get sucked into a journey of cringy hinge dates, niche liberal arts college turned nyc lesbians, family drama, badly executed ballet, and finding your worth guided by an entertaining, slightly unreliable narrator.

About the Artists

Rachel Saruski (she/her) (Playwright/Producer) is a queer, Jewish- Latina playwright and producer originally from Miami Beach, FL now living in NYC. Rachel has a passion for writing and producing queer, coming-of-age, intersectional identity, and family stories while being committed to promoting care, joy, community, liberation, and equitable practices in everything she does. The Anecdotes of a Lesbian Princess was previously produced at the Emerging Artists Theatre SPARK Festival, and will also be presented at The Tank’s LimeFest. Rachel been a Young Playwright in Residence with Echo Theatre Company in L.A., a Queer Plays Semi-Finalist for Theatre Viscera, a Gary Marshall New Works Festival Semi-Finalist, an Austin Film Festival Playwriting Competition Second Rounder, and has had her work presented by The Barrow Group’s First Fridays. She is a Sarah Lawrence College alumni, where she was awarded The David Linsday-Abaire Award for Excellence in Playwriting. Outside of theatre, she loves basking in the sun, eating cheeses of all kinds, and yapping with her friends.

Michèle Carter Cram  (Director/Producer) is a queer and neurodiverse New York-based creating art that moves: literally, physically, and emotionally. Her movement training in martial arts, stage combat, and intimacy work forms the backbone of her directing philosophy, which centers on trust and joy as radical.  In addition to supporting new playwrights, she particularly enjoys combining her strangely intense passion for Viewpoints with classical texts, and is a proud alum of Sarah Lawrence College’s Half Naked Shakespeare ensemble. Past collaborators and coworkers include Sarah Lawrence College, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Idaho Shakespeare Festival, Boise Contemporary Theater, Migration Theory, and the Juilliard School. Michèle holds a BA in Liberal Arts with a concentration in theater from Sarah Lawrence College and is originally from Boise, Idaho. She is currently obsessed with the idea of home.
