August the Seventh, the year Nineteen-Hundred and Forty-Five. Oahu, on the beach at Waikiki. Sam Kinney is a disillusioned Navy veteran and a songwriter in another life. Grace Sullivan is a starry-eyed USO showgirl and an aspiring Hollywood starlet. When a writers’ strike threatens the upcoming USO show, Grace enlists the help of Sam to create a brand new musical revue for the USO troupe to perform. But with mushroom clouds on the horizon, and the horrors of War more apparent than ever, theirs becomes a small and quiet romance, convoluted by circumstance, and as fleeting as the tides themselves.
