City Sessions #1: All I Remember is Here
In 2013, PWP led audiences on an epic adventure through NYC history over two floors of the James A. Farley post office in midtown Manhattan. On April 30, they’ll kick off a new promenade production by bringing together artists from across disciplines to create brand new works celebrating the city that we all call home. Over the next 18 months, the PWP team will be joined by a rotating group of artists from performance, dance, music, visual art, puppetry, and much more, to create new stories from more than 4 centuries of NYC history. Each quarter, they’ll present an evening of these short works in theme-based cabarets at different venues around the five boroughs. PECULIAR WORKS PROJECT was founded by Ralph Lewis, Catherine Porter, and Barry Rowell in 1993 to create and present original multi-disciplinary, site-based performance. The Obie award-winning company encourages collaboration, experimentation, and a rebel spirit in emerging & under-represented artists by providing them with tools & opportunities needed for artistic exploration.
“We perform in unconventional, non-theater spaces because we believe artistic work wakes up a site, the site transforms the work, and audiences then experience both in surprising new ways. Through unique locations—city streets, landmarked buildings, gutted storefronts, local residences, cyberspace, and more—and unusual performances, Peculiar Works brings diverse communities of artists and audiences together.”
