Can We Talk?

About This Show

Ben Freeman has spent a lot of time chasing sex on the hookup apps. As has almost every gay man he knows. Some of this chase arises from desire, but much of it arises from something else: a restless uncertainty about how to be in autonomous relationship with one’s own attention in the digital-artificial landscape we live in now.

Can We Talk? is a sexual-spiritual intervention: part performance, part participatory art experience, that asks what it might be like to desire freely. Come for music, stories of what hurts and heals, and conversation. Let’s talk about sex, baby! Let’s talk about you and me.

Ben Freeman is a performer, interactive artist, and experience designer. His work includes: SHATTERED, a two act tragedy about the American Revolution that he wrote in the fifth grade; the theatrical ritual event What Happens on Retreat, developed at the 14th Street Y; the full-length play The Shape of the Entire; and his events platform, That’s Interesting! That’s Interesting is a studio for the playful practice of attention, hosting art parties, interactive performances, workshops, and immersive experiences. Ben is also a singer-songwriter who performs regularly around NYC and is currently recording his second full-length album of original music.
