John Fleck Beatrice Lillie, the DEVIL and me

John Fleck, known by many as one of the controversial NEA 4, is a performance art roto-rooter of our cultural zeitgeist premiering his brand new work-in-progress for one night ONLY!

In Beatrice Lillie, the DEVIL and me, a misfit boy with a limp wrist conjures the spirit of the iconic 1930s theatrical song stylist Bea Lillie in order to battle the forces conspiring to dim their fabulousness.

Returning to NYC with this hysterically poignant new piece, John entertains with his 4 octave voice and pushing a few buttons along the way.

Please join us for a celebration in the lounge after John’s performance!

John Fleck‘s work has spanned performance spaces, museums, theaters, TV & film. In 1990, Fleck & 3 other performance artists were branded the NEA-4 when their work was labelled ‘obscene’ by conservative lawmakers who put pressure on the National Endowment for the Arts to rescind their funding. Their case went to the Supreme Court and won.

Venues where John’s original work is seen include: ICA London, ICA Boston, Pittsburg’s Andy Warhol Museum; NYC – New Museum, Dixon Place, Public Theater, Guggenheim Museum, PS-122, Second Stage, La Mama, Joe’s Pub; LA –  REDCAT, Getty Museum, MOCA, L.A.C.E, and Highways.  His critically acclaimed works include: Blacktop Highway (debuted @ Dixon Place in 2016), MAD WOMEN, Side E-Flecks May Include, A Snowball’s Chance in Hell, Dirt, Blessed are all the Little Fishes, ‘ME’ Psycho Opera and I Got the He-Be-She-Be’s.
