How to Join Interpol

The International Criminal Police Organization, better known as Interpol, is a law-enforcement association with 192 member countries. Its main function is to collect and share police intelligence for the common good of its members.

However, it is not a police force itself and no one working for Interpol can make arrests based on information in the organization's database. So, how to join interpol?

Qualifications

A career in Interpol isn't for everyone, but it can be a rewarding experience. To join, you must be a national of a country that is a member of Interpol and be at least 18 years old. You'll also need a relevant degree and some professional experience. You must speak English well to succeed in this job, but French and Spanish are helpful as well.

Interested individuals can check out vacancies for open positions on the Interpol website, or contact the Interpol office in their home country to learn more about joining. Applicants will be required to complete an application, which will include their resume and other related materials. They may be asked to attend an interview in person or on a video conference platform. Those who pass the interview will be required to take a written exam. Aside from the usual qualifications, there are many other things that should be considered when making a decision on whether to accept a job offer from Interpol.

Training

Interpol is an international association of governments that assists and coordinates law enforcement efforts among its members. It has no police powers itself, but has a database that provides valuable information for law enforcement in member countries. INTERPOL's domestic clearinghouses--called national central bureaus--are the primary contact points for individual police forces within each member country. This is where they exchange vital information on overseas investigations and the location and arrest of fugitives.

You can join Interpol as a seconded officer from your government or local police department. You're paid whatever your government thinks it's worth, and you get health insurance, travel costs and other benefits while working for Interpol. You can also apply to become an Interpol intern, which is a good way to gain international experience and build your CV. The application process is available at the Interpol website. It is also possible to contract directly with Interpol, but it usually requires several years of law enforcement experience.

Interviews

If you are interested in joining interpol, you must go through a series of interviews. This is a chance for the agency to evaluate your skills and determine if you have what it takes to work in the field. Interviewers will ask questions about your past positions and how well you worked with your supervisor. You should be prepared to answer these questions, but don’t sound too negative about your previous supervisor or you may not be able to secure the job. Be positive in your responses, as they will help to sell you as a good fit for the position.

Once you pass this stage, INTERPOL will contact you to set up an exam. This exam will be held at one of the organization’s locations, and if you pass it, you will receive an offer to join INTERPOL.
