Joseph Lymous
“If change moves at the speed of trust, I believe laughter can be a shortcut to change. As a Black, queer artist from New Orleans I create thoughtful, joyful, and humorous work to liberate myself and other marginalized folks. Through movement, puppetry, exaggerated personification, and anthropomorphic characters I seek to point out how absurdly hilarious and painful it can be to simply be alive.”
MARDI GRAS FOR ONE
“I have been writing and unpacking my thoughts while working with my dear collaborator, Marcie Mars, an art director and fabricator who is helping me build things for Mardi Gras FOR ONE. I also have been in collaboration with my partner in all things including puppetry, Jon Riddleberger. So far, my vision for Mardi Gras FOR ONE is as a work in progress for a future live event but I will be shooting a video so that the concepts can live now.”
“Mardi Gras FOR ONE asserts that you can be your own parade wherever you are. It celebrates joy being yours to possess.”

101 DAMNATIONS
“I have also begun the process of documenting and building 101 Damnations. My hope is that this piece can be live. Originally I imagined it happening in the theatre, but most recently I like the idea of it being an outdoor event. A lot of my work takes place in public spaces to be witnessed by passersby as well as an invited audience. I see this piece being just that.”
