About This Show

Yackez: Smell the Dance (pictured)
Yackez

YACKEZ creators, Jon and Larissa Velez-Jackson, fashion their live personas to satirize pop celebrities and themselves, while creating with dance collaborators a spectacle of queer, punk, and dance comedy. If you missed Yackez’s recent residency performance at El Museo del Barrio, here’s another chance to see “The World’s Most Loveable Hip Hop Duo” and the Yackez Dancers’ new take on pop/feminist politics, pro-wrestling, and cathartic social dance forms. This evening, created especially for Dixon Place 24th annual Hot! Festival, will feature special guests including their mascot, YackMan.

Crabs in a Bucket/ Paige is not a Lesbian
Ashley R.T. Yergens

When you catch a crab and place her in a bucket, the first thing she’ll try to do is escape. When two crabs are placed in a bucket, as soon as one tries to climb up out of the bucket, the other will pull the escaping crab back down and try to escape itself. Enter the Midwestern lesbian prom that Ashley never had. Here, we’ll recognize the “buckets” we keep each other in and have a queerness competition.
