About This Show

TRIPD
Koryn Ann Wicks

A dance piece driven by spontaneous composition that imagines the human body as a three-legged creature.

With a strong concept at the heart of the piece combined with striking visual tableaus, the dancers frequently used a combination of three contact points on the floor, two hands one foot, two feet and an elbow… The moody, group work breathed an apocalyptic vibe. – Cult Montreal

A score for music and dance driven by spontaneous composition, TRIPD stages the evolution of the body as a tripedal organism. TRIPD’s ensemble is cast through Eunoia Dance Ex’s free outreach program. The piece was created by Koryn Ann Wicks in collaboration with composer Jonah Rosenberg, and dancers Alex Jenkins and Audrey Stanley.

The Space We Make

The Space We Make co-directors foray into the land of the Grail Kingdom. It is a place where we go to seek our destiny, to wound, to become kings and queens, – where we are lauded and disparaged and ultimately define ourselves by the great feminine force of the world around us. Somewhere in the midst of this land is Delores Stroke. We recognize her through a broken lens, as if looking into a mirror fogged with the steam of our own desire. We try to own her, hurt her, protect her from harm. We lose ourselves and lay in confusion. Run, run, run – someone calls from a great distance. It is faint but we hear the call, from the one we know not and know most, and we must heed the command.

Magnificent Beast
KitchenSink Collective/ Claire Baum

Magnificent Beast is a quartet for female dancers. It explores the incredible muscularity and seeming docility of skates and other cartilaginous fish that glide through ocean waters. The movement examines the ray’s relationship to its environment: how the waves and currents affect its body and how it propels itself through underwater landscapes. As the piece progresses, the dancers glide, swim, and “fly” in packs and alone, transforming a horizontal creatures movements to a vertical plane.

Kayla Harley

The inspiration behind this work comes from the personal encounter with heartbreak. Dancer-choreographer Kayla Harley tells the story of brokenness, relives the moments and wrestles with the possibility of his return – or, even worse, hers. Harley uses creative process as a healing method. She finds translating emotions into movement give her the freedom to revisit the past without feeling ashamed or resentful.
