About The show
This double-bill features a staged reading of selected scenes from Olnek’s new work The Muff-Diving Palace of Wonder, a screenplay in progress about a group of queer women in the 1980’s who make a theater of their own.
Plus, Coley’s film Theater of Desire, an artful and historical exploration of the history of the WOW Cafe Theater through the lens of desire and survival.
The evening will include an audience Q&A/talkback with Shelby and Madeleine.
Shelby Zoe Coley is a Black queer filmmaker & content creator based in New York City working across nonfiction and documentary forms. Her work has screened internationally and has received support from the Puffin Foundation, the Camden International Film Festival, and the Jacob Burns Film Center.
Madeleine Olnek has had four films at Sundance: Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same, The Foxy Merkins, Countertransference. and Hold Up. She wrote and directed the first-ever on-screen portrayal of a queer Emily Dickinson, Wild Nights With Emily, starring Molly Shannon.
