In the Lounge Songs of Body Michelle Sui

About This Show

Interdisciplinary theatre artist and composer Michelle Sui returns to Dixon Place with new original music delivered by a striking quintet of women’s voices. Inspired by folk songs of Eastern Europe, free jazz, and her choreography on the landscapes of the body, this new score explores sound as touch, voice as body, and language in all its senseless disintegration and relocation.

About the Artist

Michelle Sui is a New York-based interdisciplinary artist, performer, composer, and filmmaker born in China and raised in the US. Her compositions integrate theatre, music, dance, film, and interactive media and draw heavily from memory, geography, language in translation, and the politics of body and femininity. Recently returning from a concert tour in the Republic of Georgia where she studied the tradition of polyphonic folk songs, Michelle is excited to be back at Dixon Place after premiering her multimedia experimental opera GODDESS 2.0 here in April 2015.
