Featuring Justine Hall, Kevis Hillocks, Erin Margaret Pettigrew, and Jarvis Tomdio, Roots is centered on a fictional college professor of English, Bro. MoreCourage, who has been promoted to Department Chair at a prestigious university. His celebration dinner is attended by characters from fiction and history who offer a perspective on the intersection between success and tragedy. Bro. MoreCourage, like his unsung dinner guests, suffers loss to achieve upward mobility. But to maintain his security, he chooses to adopt the traits of an oppressive system that his guests confront.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Tylie Shider (Playwright) is an alum of The Theater Project’s Playwrights Workshop. His work has been produced and/or developed by: Yendor Arts, Harlem 9, Playwright’s Playground (The Classical Theatre of Harlem), Homebase Theatre Collective, Frank Silvera Writer’s Workshop,  New Moon Short Play Festival (Luna Stage), Smorgasbord (Joust Theatre co.), New York New Works Theater Festival, and the Think Fast Short Play Competition (Theater Project) where he won Best Play and Audience Favorite. He was awarded the Drama Desk at Delaware State University (BA) MFA: NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Member: Dramatists Guild of America, LTC Writing Residency [’18], La MaMa Umbria International Playwright [’18].

Daniel Boisrond is the founder and Creative Director of 3:5Creative[s] Agency and Studio.
