In the Lounge OAK PARK | ARTS RETREAT Carroll Simmons

About This Show

“In August, away!”
– Benjamin Britten, “Cuckoo!”

It’s summertime.

We at mysterious pop-up performance collective CARROLL SIMMONS want YOU to join us at the last night of our arts retreat.

It is the end of the summer and it is time to show off how much we’ve grown, how much we’ve written, and how much we’ve relaxed.

We’ll do a reading of their new performance, OAK PARK: as queer as talking.

Our brilliant friend, Max Steele, will cast a literary spell!

Our brilliant friend, Ana Fabrega, will cast a comedic spell!

We’ll all sell some zines and have some drinks and shed some tears.

Join us around the campfire for this celebration of words, of the summer, and of getting away.

See you there!

About the Artists

Carroll Simmons is a fluid congregation of diverse-but-like-minded performance pioneers, led by Jaime Wright (Brooklyn), and David Bernstein (Toronto).  Our collective was founded upon the core values of rigorous shape work, coded autobiography, the mental gestures of musical theatre, and productive envy.  Our premiere work TOO MANY LENAS , an ever-evolving mash note culled from the work/life of Lena Dunham, has been presented at Dixon Place, Ars Nova, and the New Ohio Theatre.  It was described in The New York Times as “part of the problem.”

Max Steele is a performer and writer based in Brooklyn.  He writes the zines Scorcher and DOOR GIRLS, as well as poetry, fiction, and criticism.  He plays in the band BODYH1GH, and makes solo performances for theaters and art spaces.

Ana Fabrega is a comedian.  She co-hosts Comdy Cental Pretends with Lorelei Ramirez, and regularly performs at comedy venues and art spaces around New York City (but mostly in Brooklyn because she’s “alt.”).  She wrote The Truth About Pangaea, a comedy zine.
