My Friend Nina Written and Performed by Sipiwe Moyo*

About This Show

My Friend Nina, a one-woman theatre-piece inspired by the music of Nina Simone, is a collection of monologue snapshots written and performed by Sipiwe Moyo. The essence of these diverse characters are born out of Nina Simone’s work: a teenage girl coming-of-age, a man confronted with racism in his workplace, a civil rights activist, a young incarcerated poet, a hipster who’s afraid to fall in love, and a dignified French woman who claims to have been friends with Nina herself. All are united by their connection to Nina Simone’s truthful voice, encouraging them to find their own.
