Dixon Place Hosts: Collective Thread Presented by ModArts Dance Collective (MADC)

About This Show

The purpose of ModArts Dance Collective’s (MADC) Collective Thread is to provide a voice and a platform to those women of underrepresented ethnic groups within the medium of dance.

The 2017 Collective Thread participating artists and dance companies for the matinee concert are Audrey Hubbard Madison/ MoJazz Dance (Brooklyn, NY), Anuradha Naimpally (Austin, TX), Chatiera Ray/The CRayProject (Long Beach, CA), Alyssa M. Parnell (Birmingham, AL), Kaoru Ikeda/MoustacheCat Dance (New York City, NY), Cyrian Reed/ Creative Discipline (Riverside, CA), Angel Chinn/NonaLee Dance Theatre (Brooklyn, NY), Melissa Escano (Bronx, NY), Leah Moriarty (Brooklyn, NY), SunAe Hwang/SUNPROJECT (Astoria, NY), Sadé M. Jones/Ashé Arts (Austin, TX), and Leah Tubbs/ModArts Dance Collective (New York City, NY).

The participating artists for the evening concert are Natasha Natraj (New York City, NY), Chien-Ying Wang/OcampoWang Dance (Monmouth Junction, NJ), Beverly Lopez/REDi Dance (Bronx, NY), Courtni Poe (Hermitage, TN), Allyson Ross/ Southern Belle Stories (New York City, NY), Robyn Ayers (New York City, NY), Jessica T Pearson (Providence, RI), Lauren C. Smith (Jacksonville, FL), Courtney J. Cook (Brooklyn, NY), Francine E. Ott (Brooklyn, NY), Clarice C. Young (Brooklyn, NY), and Leah Tubbs/ModArts Dance Collective (New York City, NY).

about the artists

Leah Tubbs/ModArts Dance Collective (Founding Artistic Director) studied dance at Alabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA) and the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. She has performed with various dance companies in Alabama, Ohio, California, Texas, and New York. ModArts Dance Collective (MADC), established in 2011 by Leah and Shaun Tubbs, uses dance as a vehicle to connect, inspire, and ignite a spark of hope within multitudes of people from various walks of life. The mission of MADC is to celebrate and provide a platform for female artists of color to share their creative voices through performance opportunities and community collaboration.

Shaun Tubbs/ModArts Dance Collective (Executive Director/Production Manager) holds both a Bachelors of Fine Arts (Wright State University) and a Masters of Fine Arts (The University of Texas at Austin) in Acting. He has an extensive background working for arts and academic organizations. As well as a great deal of experience in several administrative and programming roles. Shaun has worked with such programs and organizations as the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company’s (DCDC) Jeraldyne School of Dance, serving as the lead administrator of the school, and as the Residential Coordinator of the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) Texas location summer intensive, just to name a few.
