We are all small dots in this city. We can feel this especially when we’re on the subway. As different people get off at different stops, it can seem that we have nothing in common. However, there are some magical moments when we feel we are connected. ‘METRO’ will tell you about these moments.

about the artists

LAURIE DÉZIEL was born in Shawinigan, Canada. She trained at L’École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, The School of Toronto Dance Theatre and was a scholarship graduate of The Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance where she worked alongside Graham II. She performed at The Martha Graham Company’s 90th Anniversary Season at the New York City Center.  Laurie was a choreographer and soloist for the Balasole Dance Company’s season MIXTUS presented at the Ailey CitiGroup Theatre. She works as a freelance dancer, actor and model and is excited to perform with JM Physical Theatre for their upcoming production Metro.

ALBERT OLSZEWSKI is excited to be making his debut with JM Physical Theatre. Al is fresh to the east coast coming from getting his Master’s in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. He has recently appeared in The Last Five Years (Jamie) at the Philbin Studio Theatre, Spring Awakening (Melchior) and Rent (Gordon) with the Helena Theatre Company, and Noises Off! (Gary) at Carroll College.  Al also dabbles in improv and sketch writing with training from UCB and Second City.  

FELIPE JOGLAR graduated from the Professional Conservatory of Musical Theatre at the New York Film Academy, where he performed as Guido in Nine, and Frank Shepard in Merrily We Roll Along. Also, he originated the role of Pato in the movie musical Kaya, A Taste Of Paradise, directed by Paul Warner.

NATHAN DAVID SMITH is a NYC based theater artist from Grinnell, IA. He most recently performed in: Typed Out: A Micast Princess Cabaret for the launch of Thousand Faced Theatre Company; An NYC based theatre company which he Co-Founded and acts as Director of Media and Communication. Some of his favorite credits include: Not Dead Fred (Spamalot) and Fiorello LaGuardia (Fiorello!). Nathan received a BFA in Musical Theatre from Drake University, and is an alumni of the National Musical Theatre Institute. GABI GARCIA is a brassy blonde belter hailing from Los Angeles. She’s been a NYC-based singer/actor for 6 years now and is ecstatic to be working with JM Physical Theatre. Ms. Garcia recently graduated with her BFA in musical theatre from NYU Tisch School of the Arts in the New Studio on Broadway being taught by the likes of Olympia Dukakis and Michael McElroy. Recent performances include Maureen in RENT, Britt in Waiting For Dave Franco, singing at 54 Below, The Green Room 42, Radio City Music Hall, as well as Jazz at Lincoln Center.  She looks forward to what post graduation life holds even if it means having to leave the East Village. Jeongyun Lee (director) is excited and grateful for the opportunity to present her new piece METRO at Dixon Place. Jeongyun is a performance director and puppeteer based in New York City. Passionate about the staged performing arts, experimental works, and puppetry world. In 2017, She has an MA in Performance Studies, focusing on puppetry, at Tisch School of Arts, NYU. She got a BFA in Stage Performing Arts from the Université Paris VIII, France. She has served as director, assistant director, and puppeteer for several theaters and musical productions in NYC and Seoul. She developed several experimental puppet projects with various materials ; incorporating different  languages, modern dance, and Korean traditional music. She performed and directed her puppet pieces, Stranger (2017) and (beat) (2017) at La MaMa Puppet Slam and Dixon Place’s Puppet BloK. She is a co-founder of NY based theater troupe JM Physical Theatre with producer Minji Kim.

Minji Kim (producer) is originally from South Korea where she received a BA in Art Management. She studied Visual Arts Administration at NYU Steinhardt. Kim has managed several exhibitions during her academic years in Korea and Hong Kong and her professional work experiences include working with an Art Fair Committee, galleries, and Biennale. Her primary interest is managing a wide range of different art projects in both visual and performing arts as well as collaborating with emerging artists in the world of Fine Arts. She is always intrigued by cultural dynamics existing all over the world and willing to take on any challenge to advance her artistic sensitivity and creativity.

Hansol Kim (bookwriter/lyricist) was born in South Korea, and studied Mass Communication at Sogang University in South Korea. After graduating, she set off for Leeds, England and received a Master of Arts in Writing for Performance and Publication at the University of Leeds. She had her debut with the play “Life, You Don’t Know” at the Alec Clegg Studio in Leeds. She continued her journey to New York City and graduated with an MFA from the Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program at New York University. Her opera and musical, “Loitering”, “My First One Night Stand” and “Your, Our Story” premiered at Manhattan Rep Theatre and her play ‘It’s Up To You’ has been chosen as a finalist in the MRT play contest. Recently, her experimental play ‘Stranger’ was showcased at La MaMa.

Boram Han (music composer) is a NYC-based composer, arranger and musician. Originally from Korea, she has a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music in Boston and a Master of Fine Arts from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Boram has written numerous heartwarming pieces for her Jazz Orchestra Boram & Friends. After she came into the musical theatre world, she wrote both the 20 minute musical Everything For You and the full-length musical Cora and The Great Beyond with librettist Mark Burns. In addition, she has written the 15 minute opera President Joan with librettist Cal Silberstein and a full-length musical in Korean with librettist Hansol Kim. Boram thanks her family for all of their support and belief in her.

Eunyoung Bona Jung holds an MFA in Theatre Arts from Columbia University. Theater credits include The weird Tree (NYC Fringe Festival), Lost in Place (NYC Planet Connections Festivity), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Classic Stage Company), Light (CSC), God of Carnage (Columbia), A Lie of the Mind (Columbia), White Lies (France Avignon Festival) Oresteia Trilogy ver.2.0 (KunstaHale Theater, Korea), CollaboLab: Film, shot, and consciousness (England Trinity Laban Conservatoire + Arts&Co.)
