La Poética de la Alcapurria is a poetry performance based on the poet’s experience as a Puerto Rican living for years in New York City. The components are various pieces written in Spanish, English, & Spanglish. The project is addressed to the city population, highlighting the Puertoricanness & honoring Miguel Algarín & the Nuyorican Poetry Movement.

About the Artist

Carlos Manuel Rivera is a Puerto Rican poet-performer & actor. Carlos is a Professor of Spanish at Bronx Community College, CUNY. He won the First Prize in the International Contest of the Puerto Rican Institute of Culture, 2013 in the Essay category with the book Para que no se nos olvide. Ensayos de interpretación sobre un teatro puertorriqueño marginal (So we don’t forget: Essays of interpretation of Puerto Rican marginal theater). Among his book’s publications are: Popular Theater: The New Poor Theater of America by Pedro Santaliz (2005) & Soplo mágicos disparates. (Magical Non Senses) (2003). In 2010, he recorded a CD, titled ASI MI NATION.
