About This Show

We experience art making as a push and pull between interiority and exteriority, between the body in space and the body as it perceives itself in space. All relationships are relations of power. Marks are traces of ownership, psychic and real.

about the artists

Rufus Tureen‘s performance work has been seen worldwide, including Stockholm, Sweden and Turku, Finland in collaboration with Johan Bergström Hyldahl, in New York at The Kitchen with Courtesy the Artist, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Alaska’s Perseverance Theater, the Brick Theater, Five Myles Gallery, and Present Co. His paintings, a product of his performance practice, have been exhibited at Janet Kurnatowski Gallery and Bortolami Gallery in New York, the Lewis Gallery in Portland, Maine, and in Barranquilla, Colombia.  He is a member of the artists collective gallery Essex Flowers.

Monica Palma‘s work resonates with geometric motifs of Mexican/Pre-Columbian textiles and the cadence of Catholic prayers—two concepts that for her are psychically linked, syncretism experienced as synesthesia. She has had two solo shows at Ortega y Gasset Projects in New York and has been included in exhibitions at TSA Gallery, The Brucennial, NURTURE/nature at 245 Varet Street and The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO. Her work has been reviewed in Art Forum and Art in America.
