About the Artists

The Jam is New Georges’ artist-led, collaboration-based lab for early-career theatermakers, founded in 2010 by playwright Lucy Alibar and directors Jess Chayes and Portia Krieger as a performance gym: not another writers’ group, instead a space for women directors, playwrights, devisers, and hyphenate artists to incubate genre-breaking new work for the American theater.  Since its founding, sixty women and gender-nonconforming artists have participated in The Jam, and their projects and collaborations have found future lives at New Georges and beyond.  The Jam’s 2-18-19 co-leaders are Sarah Einspanier, Julia May Jonas and Colette Robert.
