Barbie and her company have been making theatre for over forty years, staging classics from Shakespeare to Broadway. After attending a devised theatre workshop, Barbie’s passion for storytelling took a new direction, outside the box. The BarbieKen Theatre Company is now going to stage a story that matters, George Saunders’ In Persuasion Nation. A story about free will, corporate manipulation, and the search for a greater meaning in life. Barbie and friends will boldly take on new roles like Orange, Abraham Lincoln, and a Polar Bear who loves Cheetos to become true artists reflecting the times in which they live.

A fool and a hero. In reality he is a failure. In his mind he soars—a gallant knight sallying forth from one adventure to another and with a lady-love to honor. Everything he sees is filtered through the books that have captured his imagination and indeed altered his own reality. He reads. He plays. He’s proud. He’s not right in the head. You say windmill, I say monster. Oh to shine! Oh to Play! There—a monster to slay!

About the artists
CB Goodman is an artist specializing in devising theatre utilizing puppetry and text. CB’s puppetry credits include Demolishing Everything with Amazing Speed (Bard SummerScape); Shank’s Mare (La Mama/Japan Tour); Firebird (Little Orchestra Society, Chile Tour); The Tempest (Shake On The Lake); and Dinner for Two (LaMama’s Puppet Slam/Kid’s Winter Wonderland). CB has a MFA in theatre from Sarah Lawrence College. She also collaborates with others as a puppet designer and director, makes props and teaches theatre making and design.
Lake Simons is an artist specializing in devising theatre productions that utilize movement and puppetry. She has created over a dozen original productions as well as collaborated on multiple theatre projects as a puppet designer and director. Lake served as a puppetry associate for both the Broadway production of War Horse and the national tour. Lake is an artist-in-residence at the Hip Pocket Theatre in Ft. Worth, Texas. Lake was nominated for a 2014 Doris Duke Impact Award and has been awarded six Jim Henson Foundation Grants for her original puppetry productions. She holds theatre degrees from University of North Carolina School of the Arts and Ecole Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq in Paris, France.
