In addition to viewing the art and photography exhibit, these events will include human-rights themed drinks (create one and get your first one free!), jazz (the cool sound of the next revolution), human rights trivia games (prizes!), “Hyde Park Corner” to vent your spleen etc. and special guests as follows:

Friday, March 3, 6:00-7:30pm FEATURING: Shilpa Darivemula, who will present “Sati’s Surgery.”  Sati’s Surgery introduces the Aseemkala Initiative’s Mahavidyas in Medicine, a 12 part production that explores the intersectionality of demi-goddesses in Indian mythology with stories of women in medicine through Kuchipudi and Bharata Natyam dance. Every dance production traditionally begins with an invocation piece, a prayer to the Gods asking for blessings for the dancer and the audience. The elemental rituals seen in dance prayers are the same elemental rituals seen in surgery. Shilpa is a third year medical student at Albany Medical College in New York Founder and Artistic Director of the Aseemkala Initiative that uses indigenous traditional dance from India to narrate stories of mythology crossing with stories of medicine.  https://aseemkala.org

Saturday, March 4, 7-8:30pm FEATURING: Angelica Harris: “Heroes Project-Writers’ Journal” it is a creative writing tool to help those who have endured domestic and sexual abuse, to find the words, and symbolisms to reach beyond their fears, and have the courage to speak out about the abuse they have endured and their abusers. Human Rights Activist Angelica Harris is a successful author, poet laureate, entrepreneur, advocate, and speaker. She was appointed Queens Poet Laureate in 2010. Angelica, is the Founder, and President of the Excalibur Reading Program, a non-profit educational agency located in Queens, NYC.
