About This Show

GUTS is a bare-bones reading series which encourages experimentation. Writers from a wide variety of styles and life phases are invited to read new work and discuss their practices in an intimate setting. Curated by Dia Felix.

About the Authors

ANNA JOY SPRINGER, is a queer visual artist, performer, and cross-genre writer working with the sacred, perverse, hilarious and threatening. She is the author of The Vicious Red Relic, Love (Jaded Ibis, 2011), an illustrated fabulist memoir and CD, and The Birdwisher, A Murder Mystery for Very Old Young Adults (Birds of Lace, 2009). Other work appears in anthologies, journals, and zines, and on records. An Associate Professor of Literature at UC San Diego, she teaches experimental writing, feminist literature & graphic texts. She’s played in Bay Area punk bands Blatz, The Gr’ups, and Cypher in the Snow.  http://literature.ucsd.edu/people/faculty/aspringer.html

Katrina Dodson is the translator of Clarice Lispector’s Complete Stories, winner of the the 2016 PEN Translation Prize and other awards. She is currently translating the Brazilian modernist classic Macunaíma: the Hero Without a Character for New Directions and adapting her Lispector translation journal into a book. She is from San Francisco and holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Berkeley.
