About This Show

A night of Gabriel’s words as read by other people. Sarah Pinson will perform poems written for Dorothy Parker on her 116th birthday, including The Biggest Flop and The Boys’ Club , dressed for swinging 20s. Amanda Killian plays an elderly southern lady with a secret in Don’s short monologue I am Your Mother . In Gender , an appropriation collaboration with Justine McCullough combines patriarchal doctrines with women’s rights text to create poetry. John Reed, an American novelist, will read a short excerpt from Don’s, recently published short story, Cesspools and Treasure Chests.  Singaporean poet Christine Chia will read a small excerpt from Somewhere Else, a story about an expatriate Australian family living in Singapore. Two poets, Hala Alyan and D Bird, will co perform a prose poem recently translated into Spanish, echoing each other with each line. Woman Without Umbrella ,  made by Rachel Eliza Griffiths, featuring Gabriel, using excerpts from Victoria Redel’s poems, will be also be screened.

About the Artist

Gabriel Don received her MFA in creative writing at The New School, where she worked as the chapbook and reading series coordinator. Her work has appeared  in publications such as The Brooklyn Rail, The Understanding Between Foxes and Light, A Minor, Westerly, Mascara Literary Review,   Quiet Lunch 2, The Legendary and Gargoyle 62,  Transtierros   (translated into Spanish)  and is forthcoming in   Three Rooms Press‘ Dada Journal MAINTENANT 9  .  She has appeared in visual poems such as   Woman Without Umbrella  and  Unbound . She started several reading-soiree series and is editorial staff at   LIT. Gabriel is a  gypsy  who grew up in Australia, Dubai and Singapore, traveling the world and living and working in places such as Amsterdam before making NYC her home.
