Abolition Parda & A Classical Education (two cantastorias)
Two cantastorias (picture-recitation performances) by Rosza Daniel Lang/Levitsky: A Classical Education feels its way through being taught a culture that has no space for your own life, pairing the poetry of Yiddish modernist Anna Margolin with images from the work of armless trans Argentine-German artist Lorena Böttner. abolition parda for brown & tubman weaves histories of abolition struggles past and present, using words from Saidiya Hartman’s exploration of Black girls & women’s everyday resistance, the memory of the New York Conspiracy of 1741, and sewn and painted images of the Kansas War where John Brown became famous.
Rosza Daniel Lang/Levitsky is a cultural worker and organizer based at Brooklyn’s Glitter House. Just another diasporist gendertreyf mischling who identifies with, not as. Current projects include: Critical Reperformance, re-bodying classic and neglected performance scores; JUST LIKE THAT, militant research on dancers’ embodied knowledge and political movements; Koyt Far Dayn Fardakht, a Yiddish anarchist punk band. Founding member of Survived & Punished New York (abolitionist organizing to free criminalized survivors of gendered violence).
