In the Lounge El Toque del flamenco queer Jero Férec & Ryan Rockmore

About This Show

Ryan Rockmore, a New York-based queer flamenco artist, brings Jero Férec, a Barcelona-based queer flamenco guitarist, to Dixon Place for an evening of song and dance. During the evening set, Férec will premier new works and play pieces from his recent album, Color Prohibido. These two male artists will explore the proximity and collaboration of queer relationships between flamencos within song and dance.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Born and raised in the UK, Barcelona-based Jero Férec is recognised as one of the most outstanding and controversial young voices in flamenco. He studied the traditional form and went on to receive an MA in Flamenco Guitar at Catalonia College of Music in Barcelona. He has given sold-out performances at The Roundhouse, Royal Albert Hall, Sala Apolo, and local tablaos. In 2018 he performed alongside singer Ana Brenes at the prestigious Festival Flamenco de Nou Barris. The performance of his 2017 album, Color Prohibido, was hailed as “strong and high quality… enchanting and surprising the audience” by El Mundo.

Ryan Rockmore is a queer flamenco dancer-researcher in New York and has studied with Carmen Ledesma, Merche Esmeralda, La Choni, Victorio Korjhan, La Meira, Rafaela Carrasco, and Marco Flores. His queer work has been featured at Dixon Place and during his artistic residency with Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana. Rockmore holds an MA in Dance Anthropology and will begin a PhD in Culture & Performance at UCLA in the fall. He continues to create and publish on identity politics and gender performance in flamenco.
