Dixon Place & Watchface present Dixonface/Watchplace 10pm show ADDED -- A Benefit to celebrate Dixon Place's 30th Anniversary & launch of Watchface Archives website!

About This Show

The seven original members of Watchface are thrilled to be reuniting for the 30th Anniversary of Dixon Place. Their connection extends back to 1986, when Dixon Place began presenting performance art. The show celebrating this milestone will include performances from all Watchface members, plus videos & readings, representing many of the forty shows created during their years together, 1983 to 1991. Guest artists, including David Cale, Joseph Keckler, and Carol Lipnik, will be performing Watchface material. The evening also announces the launch of the Watchface Archives website.

The event benefits both Dixon Place, an artistic incubator & non-profit institution supporting the creative process by presenting original works by over 1,000 artists a year, & the creation of the Watchface Archives website.

About the Artists

“Wickedly wide-eyed performance art…”
New York Times, 1987

“…flawless timing and wit…”
The Village Voice, 1987

“…the most innovative and imaginative performers working on the Lower East Side today.”
High Performance, 1987

“Watchface is the Niagara Falls of performance groups, cascading over the proscenium apron, and flooding the audience with craggy wisdom, icy humor, and refreshing humanity.”
Cover, 1988

Watchface was a seven-member performance collective that performed together in various combinations from 1983 to 1991, creating forty different works. The Watchface identity was clearly evident throughout: an irreverent sense of humor combined with a sincere investigation for the kernel of truth.

Watchface performed at all of the iconic East Village performance spaces of the time, which included Dixon Place, 8BC, La MaMa, PS 122 & The Pyramid Club. They also performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Lincoln Center, Los Angeles’ Museum of Contemporary Art, the Alley Theater in Houston & London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts.

All seven members of Watchface have remained in communication in the years since their breakup though their lives have taken divergent paths. Their performance at this Dixon Place 30th Anniversary celebration is their first & only reunion.
