About the Artists

Sônia Lopes Soares is a Brazilian dance artist, based in New York City. Cultivating a language through multidisciplinary collaboration, Soares constructs scenes using nonlinear, poetic narratives, mirroring the random and chaotic nature of the universe. This investigation encompasses vulnerability in the bodies, the line between fiction and reality, the ridiculous and tragic, and how they all interconnect. Sônia has received four prestigious grants from the city of São Paulo and the British Council to develop, produce, and perform her company’s work. She has performed her work in Brazil, Argentina, Peru, United States, France at Pompidou, and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Karen Bößer examines human conditions and tendencies with conceptual strictness and an interdisciplinary attitude of inquiry. She analyzes and plays with the rules governing the relationship between the stage and the auditorium, seeking out unexpected juxtapositions and situations. Bösser studied dance at Cunningham Studio NYC, Simonson Technique at Dance Space Inc. and with Janet Panetta, Frey Faust and Howard Katz. She recently received a grant for “Tanzrecherche NRW # 23a collaboration research with Melanie Maar. Her works have been presented i.a. Lehmbruck Museum (DE), Maschinenhaus (DE), Art of Touch Festival (BIH), Watertower Art Festival (BG), High Festival (AM), Trafó – House of Contemporary Arts (HU) and is coproduced since 2008 by Forum Freies Theater Düsseldorf (DE).

Beatrix Szörényi is working in the field of mixed media. Her oeuvre expands from drawings and collages, via objects to large-scale installations and digital media. The peculiarities of the material, the process of creation and the related associations are important components of her work. Szörényi studied Fine Art, Intermedia and Visual Communication in Budapest (HU) and Kassel (DE). She has been A.I.R. at the Museumsquartier Wien (AT) and the Cités des Artes, Paris (FR). Her works have been presented i.a. at Trafó – House of Contemporary Arts (HU), Kunsthalle Budapest (HU), Kunstverein Wolfsburg (DE), Off-Biennale Budapest (HU) and Karlin Studios Prague (CZ).
