Circle of Shit Nathan Dennis

About This Show

Inspired by Dante’s vision of Hell, Circle of Shit is a dark, philosophic comedy about a group of sinners’ descent through The Inferno.

Hell opens on Joanna completing an audit of the third Circle of Hell, a river of shit where Fidelis serves as caretaker. When these two souls accidentally break the levees of the river and release the gluttonous Estelle onto the banks, the audit quickly devolves into a deconstruction of damnation and ultimately a quest for freedom, truth, a lost husband, and the devil himself.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Nathan Dennis is a Manhattan based playwright and poet of Floridian extraction.  A graduate of NYU Tisch Department of Dramatic Writing, he served as a Rita and Burton Goldberg Fellow, and was awarded Outstanding Writing for the Stage in Spring of 2015. His most recent play, Lord of Florida, was workshopped by PrismHouse Theatre Company in the Fall of 2017.

Born into a Navy family, he draws inspiration from the near-legendary places he has passed through — from the Gilden mansions of Newport, to the archaic ruins of Sicily, to the Spanish forts of Old Florida. As such, he celebrates crafting and reforging traditional forms and genres into contemporary and contemplative theatre. He strives to pepper his scripts with an eclectic blend of myth, farce, legend, and slapstick. He is greatly inspired by William Blake, Mel Brooks, J.R.R. Tolkien, Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda, and Doctor Strangelove — who taught him to stop worrying and love the bomb.

Jenna Antoniades is a director/writer/designer/nail artist/ recruiter/etc. Her work has been presented with Dixon Place, Insomnium Theater Company, Undiscovered Countries, Am I Write Ladies?, The Radium Girls, Joust Theater Co., and NYU. She primarily enjoys working on new/developing work, and is a big fan of pieces that involve robots, dystopian futures, magic, sex, camp, supernatural drama, communication, and emotions.
