About This Show

Sometimes we are held down by things we don’t even see, but feel constricted nonetheless. BOUND materializes these confines- of blackness, of womanness, queerness, femininity, in this multimedia piece, using pole dance, unusual material, and projection. It begs the audience to think about where they fit into the conversation, how and what they want to get unbound from and invites them to help us all to get free.

~PLUS~

Soloist Naomi Ullian of Small Dangers Dance finds solace at the intersections of dance and circus as she investigates questions of queerness, matralineal survival, and the veils between the worlds.

In RetroAct, Tangle’s ten-woman cast travels through simmering duets, intricate balancing acts, a celebration of campy drag traditions, and a suspended-in-air meditation on the passage of time. A dreamer wakes and dresses for work 20 feet in the air. And two women work out their frustration and flirtation in a dance that traverses the room and reaches the ceiling. A high-energy remix of acts from Tangle’s five years of innovative aerial performance, RetroAct features the duets, dynamic aerial storytelling, and unexpected juxtapositions that have made Tangle a circus-theater favorite since 2011.
