person[ing]

Devised & Performed by: The Organism that Persons (the OtP)
Projections: Jake Nathanson, Jordan Ross, “A Lady Called Camille”

Using borrowed text, song, & movement, The Organism that Persons (The OtP) seeks to create new worlds from old ones and offer new perspectives on what it means to be a person. This first installation of person[ing] borrows from the 1971 documentary A Lady Called Camille, the book ‘Architectural Body’ (Gins & Arkawa), and musical samplings from Depression-era tunes to Lana Del Rey. The OtP draws from classical & postmodern dance, Buffon (clown), vocal arts, & drag performance.

The Organism that Persons (OtP) is a persona of Chris Rehmann, Brooklyn-based artist & educator. Originally from Mississippi, Chris studied in the Experimental Theatre Wing at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Since graduating Chris has performed at La MaMa, Dixon Place, The New York International Fringe Festival / The C.O.W., Daniel’s Spectrum (Toronto), & Pig Iron. More at crehmann.com.

Eastern Body Diary explores the experiences of a young Taiwanese seeking connection, community, and some fun in NYC. He finds he must struggle to navigate the minefield of the Western gay community where his body and existence is reduced and desexualized by racial stereotypes. While running away from these afflictions, he ends up depriving himself of the integration and wholeness he seeks.

Feng Jiang 江峰 is a gender non-conforming and multi-disciplinary performance artist working across-genres in street styles, contemporary dance, movement, and theatre as a dancer, actor and singer. He is also a radio show host, freelance model and film maker. From National Taiwan University he attained his B.A. in English and Chinese literature. He received a 2015 R.O.C. Government Fellowship to study and research dance abroad. His works have been presented by Itinerant Performance Art Festival, Movement Research at the Judson Church, “Thinking Its Presence” conference hosted by the University of Arizona, and The Exponential Festival among others.
