Marketing & Graphic Design Associate

The Marketing & Graphic Design Associate will have the opportunity to initiate, develop and execute innovative ideas while working with a creative team at one of NYC’s most exciting, award-winning downtown venues. The ideal candidate will be a great communicator and a highly organized self-starter with a passion for the arts.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create artwork and copy for all print and online media, including calendars, postcards, posters, tear sheets, social media, advertisements, eblasts, company website and ticketing platforms
  • Populate, update and maintain website content in WordPress
  • Collaborate with artists to develop content for website, email, and multiple social media platforms  
  • Manage social media team in creating content for multiple platforms
  • Organize and maintain a database of visual assets, press reviews, and articles.

Key Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Indesign and Photoshop), WordPress, G Suite, and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of  HTML, Constant Contact, Ovationtix and other ticketing platforms
  • Meticulous attention to detail with strong typography, color balance and composition technique
  • Proficient with time-management, thrives in a fast-paced environment with multiple simultaneous deadlines
  • Proven ability to follow through with multifaceted strategic campaigns
  • Possesses an outstanding portfolio of creative design and excellent production skills
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently, and communicate successfully with diverse staff and artists
  • Professional and positive attitude; ability to take direction and feedback
  • Knowledge of current marketing trends
  • Experience with paid media, SEO/SEM, Google Tag Manager & Analytics helpful
  • An interest in and appreciation for experimental downtown performance a plus.

Job Classification & Salary Details

Managing Director

The Company: An artistic incubator since 1986, Dixon Place (DP) is a Bessie and Obie Award-winning non-profit institution committed to supporting the creative process by presenting original works of theatre, dance, music, puppetry, circus arts, literature and visual art at all stages of development. Presenting over 1000 emerging and mid-career  creators a year, this local haven inspires and encourages artists of all stripes and callings to take risks, generate new ideas and consummate new practices. After spawning DP as a salon, Artistic Director Ellie Covan pioneered the organization in her NYC living room for 23 years and, after organic development and capital expansion, opened a state-of-the-art theatre in 2009. Located in Manhattan’s Lower Eastside, DP owns its 6000 square ft facility that includes a fully-equipped theater, a rehearsal studio, and a lounge with an intimate performance space, art gallery and a fully licensed bar.

Many artists such as Blue Man Group, John Leguizamo, Lisa Kron, Deb Margolin, and Reno began their careers at Dixon Place. In addition to emerging artists, DP has been privileged to present established artists such as Justin Vivian Bond, Taylor Mac, Martha Wainwright, Karen Finley, Peggy Shaw, Wallace Shawn, Craig Lucas, BD Wong, James Lecesne, John Fleck, David Cale, Penny Arcade, Ethyl Eichelberger, Holly Hughes, Kate Clinton, Mac Wellman, Jane Comfort and Sarah Michelson. After 32 years, Dixon Place remains at the heart of New York’s experimental performance scene.

Position: Dixon Place is seeking a Managing Director to work closely with the Artistic Director on fundraising, developing new business strategies and long-range planning. Simultaneously, the MD will oversee the day-to-day operations of marketing, administration, community outreach, front of house, and cocktail lounge. A background in and knowledge of NYC’s myriad cultural communities are essential, and prior arts management and fundraising experience is preferable.

Managing Director’s primary responsibilities:

  • Partner with AD to improve organizational infrastructure and operating systems, cultivate new funding sources and develop new earned income strategies. DP’s current annual operating budget is $900k

  • Manage and maintain grants calendar, collaborate on proposals with artistic team; strategize and oversee individual donor solicitations and the annual gala

  • Oversee the Marketing and Community Outreach team, an Administrative Associate and interns

  • Oversee bar management and box office staff in collaboration with the Business and Finance Director

An ideal candidate

  • Has a minimum of 5 years experience in a senior management position at a not-for-profit organization (preferably in NYC)

  • Possesses an entrepreneurial spirit, a conscientious approach to management and a calm demeanor

  • Meets challenges with patience, humor, and mindfulness

  • Is detail-oriented, and capable of meticulously managing day-to-day operations while simultaneously focusing on the big picture

  • Has excellent writing skills, particularly in the area of development

  • Will enjoy managing and motivating a small, busy staff in a fast-paced environment and can maintain a positive, collaborative workspace

  • Has an interest in multidisciplinary programming

  • Supports DP’s commitment to human rights and giving voice to marginalized and non-conforming communities
