Queer Today ____________ Tomorrow Tim Cusak

About This Show

Inspired by the theme of “queer futurity,” Queer Today ____________ Tomorrow is a collaboration between the youth of the TAYPE program and Theatre Askew. Drawing from the worlds of science fiction, social activism, and identity politics, it resists the apocalyptic zeitgeist and dares to imagine a future free from gender, racism, and economic injustice. In that future, nonbinary space aliens will marry silicon androids, and the simple act of walking down the street while black and queer will not be a capital offense. Climb onboard the time machine because THIS is tomorrow.

About the Artists

The Theatre Askew Youth Performance Experience (TAYPE) is a weekend, educational program specifically designed to meet the needs of LGBTQ and allied adolescents and young adults, ages 14 to 23. TAYPE provides a safe, creative forum to develop and empower the unique voices of NYC-area youth. Through TAYPE LGBTQ youth are encouraged to build community and experience leadership, teamwork and the personal rewards of achievement – all through the process of creating, producing and performing theatre. Since its inception, TAYPE youth have created seven original performance pieces, and Theatre Askew has partnered with the Hetrick-Martin Institute, the Ali Forney Center, and viBe Theater Experience.
