Our Mission
Dixon Place is a Bessie and Obie Award-winning non-profit institution committed to supporting the creative process by presenting original works of theatre, dance, music, puppetry, circus arts, literature and visual art at all stages of development.
The artist’s experience is given top priority through our professional atmosphere and remuneration, and their process is enhanced by our adventurous audiences. With a renewed commitment to racial equity and justice, Dixon Place is a local haven for creativity as well as an international model for the open exploration of the process of creation.
Anti-Racism Statement
Day after day we hear news of injustice and cruelty against the most vulnerable of people. Day after day we watch as lives are ruined by people spewing hatred at anyone unlike them. Day after day we feel the pain of those targeted and brutalized by the vicious and destructive white supremacist spirit that infests our society.
We recognize how silence and passivity enable the preservation of this power structure.
We at Dixon Place condemn violence perpetrated on all oppressed groups and individuals, from the unconscionable murder of Black, Asian, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ People by police to the systemic institutional racism that perpetuates inequity and injustice.
We are committed to being an effective participant in the collective fight for justice. We must challenge and dismantle any aspect of our work that inhibits the advancement of racial and gender equity.
Dixon Place is sincerely and faithfully advancing transformation by engaging new leadership, developing new programs, and cultivating deeper, more meaningful relationships with artists and audiences from myriad NYC communities.
We stand in solidarity with activists, organizers, and communities working to create change. Systemic racism, white supremacy, gender inequality, and homophobia must be impeded and prevented at every level! It is imperative and urgent for all people to understand that unmitigated change has to happen and that everyone has a responsibility to participate.
We entreat all white humans, men, and heterosexuals to take responsibility, reflect on your own complicity, listen, learn, join in, and speak up. Your voice matters and you CAN be part of this revolution!

Things are rough – fascists are popping up everywhere and hate is blossoming as fear and mistrust are encouraged by the kleptocrats running everything into the ground and ruining peoples’ lives the world over. Things can be scary but we’re all in this together. We’re all human and until all of us are free, none of us are free.
