The Burden of the Disease

Symptoms of autoimmune diseases like fatigue, depression and anxiety are often rooted in the “burden of the disease.” People bear the emotional and financial weight of illness – of carrying the knowledge there’s something happening inside our bodies that we can’t control.

Marisa Lark Wallin’s multimedia solo performance investigates: What can a sick woman do with the disturbances in her body from illness and medical intervention? And what about the disturbances of others? Do we disturb each other? Is the world around us becoming sicker and sicker, too? Can we heal each other if there is no obvious cure?

Marisa Lark Wallin is a writer, artist and educator. She has performed and shared work at places like Dixon Place, The Brick, the Invisible Dog, the Bushwick Starr, and LaMama E.T.C. She holds a BFA from NYU Tisch Drama and an MS Ed. from Brooklyn College. See her most recent writing in new episodes of Clifford the Big Red Dog on Amazon and PBS. marisalark.com
