Friday, March 3, 6:00-7:30pm FEATURING: Shilpa Darivemula, who will present “Sati’s Surgery.” Sati’s Surgery introduces the Aseemkala Initiative’s Mahavidyas in Medicine, a 12 part production that explores the intersectionality of demi-goddesses in Indian mythology with stories of women in medicine through Kuchipudi and Bharata Natyam dance. Every dance production traditionally begins with an invocation piece, a prayer to the Gods asking for blessings for the dancer and the audience. The elemental rituals seen in dance prayers are the same elemental rituals seen in surgery.
